Development

If back-end development is the engine, then front-end is the hood and the way it's mounted. Both are incredibly important for a website.

In brief

What is Development

Whatever you need online, a lot of technology is always involved behind the scenes. Programming code, creating connections, integrating APIs, you name it. Often that's not really interesting to you and the stuff just needs to work well. But you do want to know what all that hacking gets you.

IT people can be quite nerdy. We know strange languages that make your website or app look fantastic and do what it needs to do. But that doesn't mean you need a dictionary to chat with us and get what you need. At Get Interactive, we're very good at translating technology and development into concrete matters.

That's why we distinguish between Back-end and Front-end Development. Read more below.

Under the hood

Back-end Development

Back-end is the part of a website or application that is not visible to the user. The "back end", so the back side, ensures that the front-end works. Although you don't see the back-end, it's incredibly important. The back-end is comparable to the engine of a car: not visible from the outside but crucial to move forward.

In a webshop, the back-end is responsible, among other things, for the technology that allows a visitor to shop, order, and pay on the webshop, while front-end focuses on the visible part of the webshop, such as the visual layout or the presentation of products.

The aesthetic part

Front-end development

Front-end is the part of a website or app that is visible to the user. If back-end development is the engine, then front-end is the hood and the way it's mounted. Similar terms are User Interface (UI) or user interface.

In a webshop, for example, the part where the visitor uses and where the products are on the site is the front-end. The underlying database and the CRM system containing all the data of the products and customers is then the back-end.
